One of the questions I get asked most often is what to do with all the papers that come home from school. I know first hand what it is like to receive multiple pieces of paper each day. And they are so proud and excited to show me what they made. But what should you do with it?
Weed through and address the important papers. Fill them out, sign them and put them back in the backpack immediately.
Set boundaries on what you want to have a keepsake, display, and toss. My rule is if it has handprint, footprint or is for a special holiday then I keep it. If it is just some cute she made we display it. We have a spot in her play area that we hang up the things she is very proud of but I don’t plan to keep. When it gets full I let my daughter choose what she wants to take down to make room for the new piece that she excited about. This has worked well for us.
Here are a few other ways that you can display or store school papers/artwork.
You can assign each child a file box with file folders for each grade. You could even add their first and last day of school picture in the file. Limiting yourself to one box will help you from keeping everything. For custom labels go to our shop page. This should be kept in the kitchen or by your command center to ensure you put things away each day.
Or you let each child have a board to display their work. One less thing for them to fight about and you can display school work for your older kids as well.
